Borussia Monchengladbach v Barcelona Betting: No Messi, no problem for Luis Enrique's men

The Catalans were ruthless on matchday one and we are backing them to win by at least two goals when they visit Germany to face a side who concede plenty of goals in Europe.

Despite Barcelona winning 5-0 at Sporting Gijon at the weekend, manager Luis Enrique was nevertheless critical of his side's failure to kill off the game earlier. The Catalans raced into an early 2-0 lead but did not score again until Sporting were reduced to 10-men after which they netted three times in the last nine minutes.
The side were missing Lionel Messi of course and they will be without him for the trip to Germany on Wednesday evening, although Luis Enrique will be heartened by the fact that four different players got themselves on the scoresheet in Gijon.

Gladbach meanwhile have made a solid start to the Bundesliga season with three wins, a draw and a defeat from their five matches so far, although their opening game in the Champions League saw them defeated 4-0 at Manchester City.

With Barca thrashing Celtic 7-0 in their first group game, the Blaugrana will fancy their chances of recording another big win and Paddy Power offer them at just 4/9 (1.44) to claim the three points.
The hosts for their part can be backed at 11/2 (6.50) and the draw is priced at 7/2 (4.50) but realistically punters should be looking to find a way to back the visitors. While the price of 6/5 (2.20) for over 3.5 goals could appeal, backing Barca with a -1 handicap at 11/10 (2.10) looks like an excellent option.

This selection has paid out in six of Barca's last nine Champions League matches while Gladbach have a habit of conceding plenty of goals in Europe.
The Germans have kept just one clean sheet in their last seven group games, conceding 16 goals in the process meaning that Barcelona should have a good chance of winning by at least two goals. Missing Messi is of course a blow for the Spanish champions, but his absence gives a chance for Neymar and Luis Suarez to step up, something they have tended to do when the Argentine has been injured.
