Arsenal‘s Alexis Sanchez has similarities to Luis Suarez when he plays as a central striker, according to Arsene Wenger.
With Olivier Giroud struggling for fitness and Lucas Perez settling into English football Sanchez has been drafted in up front recently.
The Chilean has reacted wonderfully, scoring five goals in his last six games to earn comparisons with Barcelona’s goal machine Suarez from his manager
"First of all I had big competition up front. I thought Welbeck could play there, Giroud was playing there with different qualities and I reflected for a long time at the end of the season,” Wenger told Sky Sports.
"I decided to try Sanchez [up front]. He has similarities with Luis Suarez. At the start, many people questioned that decision.
"In the first two games I was not completely convinced but now, game after game, he's growing into this position and getting better and better.
"Where he's strong is that he can dribble, finish and he can also give a final ball."
Despite his excellent form Sanchez can't keep pace with Suarez this season, with the Uruguayan having registered eight goals in nine appearances in all competitions.
However, Sanchez's pace and work-rate have suited Arsenal's playing style well this season, with the 27-year-old able to press from the front and pressurise the opposition.
Indeed, it was Sanchez's pressure that resulted in the first goal of the 3-0 thrashing of Chelsea last week, with the Chilean stealing the ball from Gary Cahill before chipping past Thibaut Courtois.
